Biography

Exodus 2-34

A long time ago, in the land of Egypt, there lived a little baby named Moses. The Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, was very worried because the Israelites, were growing in number and would become too powerful. He decides that all baby boys born to the Israelites must be thrown into the Nile.

Moses’ mother, Jochebed, made a special waterproof basket and placed Moses inside on the river.  As Moses floated down the river, the Pharaoh’s daughter saw the basket, found the beautiful baby inside! She him as her own son, as a prince!

Moses Grows Up
As Moses grew up, he learned about his people, the Israelites, who were suffering as slaves in Egypt. One day, he saw an Egyptian beating an Israelite. Angered by this injustice, Moses intervened and hurt the Egyptian. Fearing for his life, Moses fled to a land called Midian, where he became a shepherd and started a new life.

One day, while tending his sheep, Moses saw something amazing—a bush that was on fire but did not burn up! Curious, he approached it, and God spoke to him from the bush. “Moses, I have heard the cries of my people in Egypt. I want you to go back and lead them to freedom.”

Moses was afraid and didn’t think he could do it. “But I can’t speak well!” he said. God assured him, “I will be with you. Just trust me.”
The Exodus Moses returned to Egypt and spoke to Pharaoh, asking him to let the Israelites go. But Pharaoh refused, so God sent ten plagues to show His power. After the last plague, where the firstborn of every Egyptian family died, Pharaoh finally agreed to let the Israelites leave.

Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, but soon Pharaoh changed his mind and sent his army after them. The Israelites found themselves trapped at the Red Sea, with the Egyptian army closing in. But God told Moses to raise his staff over the sea. When he did, the waters parted, and the Israelites walked through on dry ground!

Once they were safely across, Moses raised his staff again, and the waters returned, drowning the Egyptian army. The Israelites were free at last!

The Ten Commandments
After their escape, the Israelites wandered in the desert. God provided them with food and water, guiding them to a mountain called Sinai. There, God called Moses to the top of the mountain and gave him the Ten Commandments—important rules for how to live and treat one another.

Moses brought the commandments down to the people, teaching them how to follow God and live in peace.
