The Book of Joshua
Joshua Becomes Leader
After Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt and through the wilderness, he passed away. God chose Joshua, a brave and faithful warrior, to be the new leader of the Israelites. God promised Joshua that He would be with him just as He was with Moses. Joshua was excited and ready to lead the people into the Promised Land, Canaan.
Spying Out the Land
Before entering Canaan, Joshua sent two spies to explore the land and gather information. The spies went to the city of Jericho, where they met a woman named Rahab. She hid them from the king’s soldiers and helped them escape by lowering them down from her window with a scarlet cord. The spies promised to keep Rahab and her family safe when they returned to conquer Jericho.
Crossing the Jordan River
When the time came to enter Canaan, the Israelites faced a big challenge: the Jordan River. It was overflowing, and there was no bridge to cross. But God had a plan!

Crossing the Jordan River
When the time came to enter Canaan, the Israelites faced a big challenge: the Jordan River. It was overflowing, and there was no bridge to cross. But God had a plan!
He instructed Joshua to have the priests carry the Ark of the Covenant into the river. As soon as their feet touched the water, God performed a miracle. The river stopped flowing, and the Israelites crossed on dry ground! They collected stones from the riverbed to remember this amazing event.
The Battle of Jericho
Next, it was time to conquer Jericho, a city with strong, tall walls. God gave Joshua a unique strategy: for six days, the Israelites were to march around the city once each day. On the seventh day, they would march around it seven times and then shout loudly while the priests blew their trumpets.
The Israelites followed God’s instructions, and on the seventh day, after marching around the city seven times, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls
of Jericho crumbled to the ground! The Israelites rushed in and captured the city, but they remembered to save Rahab and her family, just as they promised.
