Biography

Acts 8:26-40

A long time ago, there was a man
named Philip who loved Jesus very much. Philip was one of Jesus’ followers,
and he loved to tell people about Jesus wherever he went.

One day, an angel of the Lord came to Philip and said, “Philip, go south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This was a desert road, but Philip obeyed right away because he trusted God.

As Philip walked along the road, he saw a chariot in the distance. Inside the chariot was an important man from Ethiopia. This man was an official in charge of all the treasure of the queen of Ethiopia. He had come to Jerusalem to worship God and was now on his way home. As he traveled, he was reading from the book of Isaiah in the Bible, but he didn’t understand what he was reading.

The Holy Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” So Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the Ethiopian man reading aloud. Philip asked him, “Do you understand what you are reading?” The Ethiopian man replied, “How can I,
unless someone explains it to me?” He invited Philip to come up and sit with him in the chariot.
Philip sat beside the Ethiopian and explained that the passage he was reading was about Jesus. He told him how Jesus came to save everyone from their sins and how He died and rose again. The Ethiopian man listened carefully and believed
everything Philip told him about Jesus.

As they traveled along the road, they came to some water. The Ethiopian man said, “Look, here is water. What can stop me from being baptized?” Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” The Ethiopian man answered, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”

So they stopped the chariot, and Philip and the Ethiopian man went down into the water. Philip baptized him right there. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the Ethiopian man did not see him again. But he went on his way rejoicing because he had found Jesus.

Philip found himself in another town, and he continued to preach the good news about Jesus to everyone he met.
