1 Samuel 16-17
A long time ago,in the land of Israel, there lived a young shepherd boy named David. He was the youngest son of Jesse, and he spent his days taking care of his father’s sheep. David loved God very much and often sang songs and played his harp while he watched over the flock.
The Anointing of David One day, God told the prophet Samuel to go to Jesse’s house because He had chosen a new king for Israel. God wanted someone who had a good heart, not just someone who looked strong or powerful. When Samuel arrived, he saw Jesse’s oldest son, Eliab, and thought, “Surely this is the one!” But God said, “No, I do not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but I look at the heart.”
One by one, Samuel looked at all of Jesse’s sons, but none of them were the chosen one. Finally, Samuel asked, “Are there any more sons?” Jesse replied, “Yes, there is David, but he is just a boy, tending the sheep.” Samuel said, “Send for him.” When David arrived, God told Samuel, “This is the one!” So, Samuel anointed David with oil, and from that day on, the Spirit of the Lord was with him.
David and Goliath As David grew older, he faced many challenges. The most famous story is when he fought the giant Goliath. The Israelites were afraid of Goliath, but David trusted God. Armed only with a sling and five smooth stones, David faced the giant and declared, “I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty!” With one swift throw, he struck Goliath down, and the Israelites celebrated David as a hero.

However, David also made mistakes, like when he took Uriah’s wife, Bathsheba, and caused harm to Uriah. When confronted by the prophet Nathan, David repented and sought God’s forgiveness.
